Our History

Our chapter would be nowhere without the tenants of the organization that keep us grounded.

Our Founding

NSBE was founded at Purdue University in 1975 by six people: John Logan, Edward Coleman, George Smith, Stanley Kirtley, Brian Harris, and Anthony Harris. Their nickname is ‘The Chicago Six.’

Our Mission

The mission of NSBE is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.

Our Vision

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.

Our LEGACY

These pictures encapsulate years of fellowship, growth, and excellence from our membership.
